Africa Fatalities
Two French women volunteering for Action Against Hunger in eastern Burundi were shot in their car in the town of Ruyigi. One of the aid workers died, the other has been hospitalized. At the present the motive is unknown.
John Granville, a USAID officer, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Khartoum, Sudan. His driver was wounded during the attack. An investigation is ongoing.

I thought this sad incident could serve as a case study for humanitarian security officers. I hope the Director of this agency can answer the following questions which in my opinion may help those of us interested in security come up with measures which will protect other aid workers.
1. Why were the victims driving at night in a place like burundi
2. How long were the victims in burundi
3. Were they victims adequately inducted on security matters and what was the security situation in the area they were shoot at
4. Was there someone more experienced among the victims
5. What is the agency policy on driving at night
